A SELECTION FROM C. G. JUNG'S
THE SPIRITUAL PROBLEM WITH MODERN MAN:

"...I must say that the man we call modern... is by no means the average man.
He is rather the man who stands upon a peak,
or at the very edge of the world,
the abyss of the future before him,
above him the heavens,
and below him the whole of mankind with a history that disappears in primeval mists."
"It must be clearly understood that the mere fact of living in the present does not make a man modern, for in that case everyone at present alive would be so. He alone is modern who is fully conscious of the present. The man who has attained consciousness of the present is solitary."
"The 'modern' man has at all times been so, for every step towards fuller consciousness removes him further from his original, purely animal participation mystique with the herd, from submersion in a common unconsciousness."

We do seem to have this problem of thinking we are highly evolved and then lapsing into hacking each other apart with machetes or power drills or whatever is handy. Like we still don't get it. Which makes me wonder just what this philosophical film has to say about Modern Man... Gosh! Is it SHOWING ANYWHERE?

I wonder if such an evolution of man is possible; seems like no matter how we "advance" we're still capable and (under the right circumstances) willing to hack each other up for the same-old same-old.

But it certainly poses an interesting proposition -- wish I could be in LA to see the film...
